To Win You Over
My slaughter of syllable alone could rupture your ear
and you decide you never were and won’t ever be here
still I place finger to key and force rhythm from rhyme
try for resplendence in verse only to tap out a stale line.
I could be the muse to your music and the net to your fall
arouse the lilt of your lyrics and the pitch in your call
and so I memorize quotes from your favorite book
and leave notes in your margin to bait the catch in your hook.
